Delhi- The Food Capital of India

“I asked my soul: What is Delhi? She replied:

The world is the body and Delhi its life.

                                                                   -Khushwant singh

As we all know, Delhi is known for its beauteous and graceful monuments dating upto the Mughal period. Apart from this, it is also famous for its appetizing street food. Hence, it is called 'The Food Capital of India'.

There are many locations to visit and try out some delicious cuisines to fulfill your cravings. Starting my journey from Chandni Chowk, also known as 'Silver Street', is one of the oldest and busiest market in Old Delhi. Here are some of the must-trys in Chandni Chowk and Jama Masjid.

Sharbat-e-Mohabbat

One of the must try drinks in Jama Masjid is Sharbat-e-Mohabbat. It is a rich and refreshing drink with a blend of watermelon, milk and rooh-afzah. The added ice enhances the flavour of this drink, driving away all your tiredness.

Aslam Chicken

Aslam Chicken is famous for its special 'Butter Chicken'. A large amount of melted butter is poured over a perfectly roasted chicken, with a special masala sprinkled on top and served along with onion rings. The butter makes the chicken softer, and the curd adds a creamy texture, making it a lip-smacking recipe.

Haji Mohd. Hussain

If you visited Jama Masjid, and didn't try Haji Mohd. Hussain's Special Fried Chicken,  you will regret it for sure. The chicken is fried to perfection in the tangiest, crispiest coating, bite into their dishes to know what I'm talking about. It is paired with a delicious, spicy chutney along with onion rings, which increases the flavour of the fries.

Karim's

Established in 1913, Karim's is one of the most historic restaurants in the whole of Old Delhi. It is famous for its various mughlai cuisines. Some of my recommendations are  the Chicken Barra, Chicken Stew and Badam Pasanda along with Khameeri Roti. It might be a little pricey, but the taste is totally worth it.

Shahi Cool Point

To cool down your senses after trying all these appetizing dishes, Shahi Cool Point is the best place to visit. From the Special Shahi Tukda to the Badam Milk, this place is stocked with different varieties of desserts. One of the must-trys is the Special Shahi Tukda, topped with some delicious rabri or vanilla ice-cream.
